Outside the Oval Art Exhibition and the new 2014 Ford Falcon XR8

There are a lot of talented artist’s in Australia.

Ford Australia and in particular the Ford Design Melbourne and its staff are home to a lot of that talent.

So recently a exhibition was created to showcase this talent, it was called Outside the Oval and it featured work by the talented staff and was also run to raise money for charity.

It was held at the 1000 £ Bend Studio in the Melbourne CBD over the weekend of October 4th & 5th 2014.

Apart from the artwork on display, the other major attraction was the public launch of the brand new 2014 FGX Ford Falcon XR8

Which has had a major cosmetic change over the previous model, below you can see more image of the updated model

 

 

 

 

The artworks on display were made up of lots of different styles, one of the biggest piece on display and one of the most interesting was the Falcon Art Car 2014, which is made from a body on white test body that was donated to the project by Ford. The artisit Peter Watson then went and took photos of the workers on the Ford Assembly line and covered the car in their images. It is an impressive piece of work.

Below is a selection of the other artwork on display.

This scale model is of a Formula 1 car that never raced.

 

The model was build by Ford Clay modeler Akihiko Ishikawa, it based on a 1994 Formula 1 car which was to be built and raced by Team Ikuzawa, but due to natural disaster & financial difficulty the race car never saw the light of day on track.

 

Lindsay Therbus’s 1968 Formula 3 Chassis which was made to show what happens when building a race car in the 60’s from scatch.

 

The engine pictured in the images below is a full clay replica of a Model T Ford engine, it was built by Jack Mendes  and the detail had to be seen to be believed.

 

Johannes Melen’s beautiful images of a Chrysler Valiant

 

Stephen Marshall created these canvas images in tribute to the Max Max Ford Intercepter.

 

Cory Middling’s “Hells Wheels” Mustang image is of his daily driver 1965 Ford Mustang.

 

Adrian Magu created this Kasokudo Floating Speed Form Bonsai Planter garden

The shape of the 80’s Lamborghini Countach is unmissable , Andrew Dallan-Jones created this Laser Cut Acrylic replica of the famous Italian icon.

 

Simple Bathurst tribute by Peter Watson

 

One of the cutest pieces on display and one of the most popular with the kids was this custom painted pedal car, called Fortunate son by Tim Gregory.

For the the Ford Mustang fans there was this hand cut GT500 tribute image by Tracy Tung.

 

For fans of the movie Bullitt with Steve McQueen there were these two pieces which paid tribute to McQueen and the hero of the movie the Ford Mustang Fastback.

 

One of my favorite pieces on display, and one you really had to see as this image does not do it justice is this reflective negative form piece which features the shape of the Ford GT40, it was created by Max Tran, it pay tribute to the stamping tools used to create the bodies of cars.

 

The work of designer Jordan Demkiw is just amazing to look at, he was head designer of the Ford FGX Falcon, his work is held in such high esteem that he is now working in Cologne Germany designing.

These two concept sketches of his and just amazing to look at.

This first one is off the FG-X in its initial design period when it was code named 201X e240. 

 

The second image is a sketch of a Ford Falcon Coupe Concept that he created in paying tribute to the Ford Coupe of the 70’s.

 

The classic Martini livery is reconcilable almost instantly anywhere in the world. Simon Brook created this piece after being inspired by the BMW 3.0 CSL Martini race car.

 

Called Millau, this road themed table created by Johan Andrieu, was inspired by the Millau Viaduct bridge in France.

 

Peter Watson, who is a talented Stencil artist, created these series of Motorsport themed trading cars of Australian F1 and Moto GP Champions.

 

Cory Middling created these acrylic painting of a Rat Rod and 32 Chop top ute.

 

Peter Watson created this stunning piece of sculpture, which you really needed to see with you own eyes, the way it flows and the form it had was just amazing. Naturally described as Speed Form it was made from hebel stone and was called Biotic Velocity.

 

This large stencil of a XC Falcon was created by Craig Metros and is presented on the back side of discarded layered posters.

 

 

This hand cut stencil of 1967 Shelby Mustang was created by also using found objects, such a surplus sheet metal and discarded particle board from a shipping crate. It was also created by Craig Metros.

 

Neil King created this 3D print of 1951 Ford Mercury using foam, timber and resin.

 

Another Neil King creation on display was this Medieval Fantasy Steam train, which had amazing detail to it.

 

Nick Eterovic stunning painting of a workshop,  was so life like you could be confused that it was a painting.

 

Rohan Hanley created this tribute to a XP Falcon with a custom number plate surrounded by images of the car.
